1. The Centre’s new rules for international arrivals kick in today amid fears over the Omicron variant of coronavirus. Meanwhile, the government has revised its list of ‘countries at-risk’ and removed Bangladesh from the list.
2. On the first day of operation of new guidelines for international passengers, 3,476 fliers from ‘at-risk’ nations arrived in India and of them, six have tested positive for COVID-19, the government said on Wednesday amid the Omicron scare. The passengers arrived on 11 international flights. “The samples…have been sent to INSACOG labs for whole genomic sequencing,”
3. A Parliamentary delegation from Mongolia called on President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 01 Dec. The delegation was led by Gombojav Zadanshatar, Chairman of the State Great Hural of Mongolia. Welcoming the delegation to India, the President said that India and Mongolia share civilizational, historical, spiritual, and cultural ties. Mr. Kovind said, India looks forward to continued cooperation to further deepen its strategic partnership with Mongolia.

1. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the world has a “toxic mix” of low vaccine coverage and very low testing, a recipe for breeding and amplifying variants. He said, “If countries don’t do what they need to do to stop transmission of Delta, they won’t stop Omicron either.”
2. France has mandated a negative coronavirus report for all non-EU arrivals irrespective of their vaccination status, amid fears of Omicron variant. The passengers will have to produce a negative COVID-19 test report carried out within 48 hours of entering France. Decisions on intra-EU travel are expected to be coordinated with European leaders soon.
3. Dec 1 marks the beginning of month of victory in Bangladesh celebrating liberation from Pakistan on 16 Dec 1971. Liberation War hero Padma Shree Lt. Col. Sajjad Zahir remembers sacrifice of B’desh & India during war. He calls upon youth to imbibe the spirit of 1971 & friendship.
4. New Zealand will send up to 65 military and police personnel to the Solomon Islands, due to rioting and looting last week. The civil unrest is largely due to the country’s increasing ties with China.
