Barbados has become the Worlds newest republic

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

1. After the World Health Organisation declared Omicron as a ‘Variant of Concern’ and warned that it poses a ‘very high risk’, India has increased screening of passengers arriving from other countries.

2. India and Israel are pushing to strengthen ties by deepening cooperation in the fields of defence and information technology, as well as resuming long-stalled negotiations over a free trade agreement.

3. PM Modi is planning a trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in January as a show of support for the Dubai Expo – where the India Pavilion has been a huge draw – in the backdrop of growing strategic ties with the Gulf nation.

4. Union Health Ministry has revised guidelines for international arrivals in India to be effective from the 1st of December. The Ministry has mandated submitting 14 days travel details, uploading negative RT-PCR test report on Air Suvidha portal before the journey. The RT-PCR test should have been conducted within 72 hours prior to undertaking the journey.
It is mandated in view of reporting of Omicron, the new variant of Covid-19.

1. Barbados has become the World’s newest republic, around 400 years after it became a British colony. Highlights Barbados, the Caribbean Island nation, removed Queen Elizabeth II as the head of the state. Dame Sandra Prunella Mason, took over as the President of Barbados. Mason was selected to become the first president of Barbados.

2. The US space agency NASA has launched a first-of-its-kind mission named DART to change the path of an asteroid by intentionally crashing a spacecraft into it. DART stands for Double Asteroid Redirection Test. The $325 million DART mission was launched into orbit on November 24, 2021, from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.

3. In Baku, Azerbaijan: Fourteen people died on 30 Nov in an Azerbaijani military helicopter crash that went down in the east of the Caucasus country during a training flight.

4. Renowned scholar and national professor of Bangladesh Professor Rafiqul Islam passed away in Dhaka. He was 87.

5. UAE’s Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi elected as President of INTERPOL
