1. The World Bank-appointed Neutral Expert has announced that it is competent to decide on the differences between India and Pakistan over two hydropower projects in Jammu and Kashmir, under the Indus Water Treaty. The Neutral Expert has rejected Pakistan’s plea to facilitate the establishment of a Court of Arbitration to consider its concerns about the designs of the two hydroelectric power projects. India had asked for the appointment of a Neutral Expert to consider concerns over the Kishenganga and Ratle hydroelectric projects.
2. The External Affairs Minister, Dr S Jaishankar attended the meeting with the Quad foreign ministers in Washington DC. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met his QUAD counterparts at the US Department of State.
3. Andhrapradesh Chief Ministers N. Chandrababu Naidu, Telangana CM Revanth Reddy and Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis attended the Country Strategic Dialogue meeting in Davos on the third day of the World Economic Forum summit.

1. US President Donald Trump’s has been sued over his plan to end birthright citizenship in the United States by a coalition of Democrat leaning states and civil rights groups.
2. The US National Weather Service (NWS) advised South California residents to limit outdoor activities due to bad air quality amid devastating wildfires. The NWS has issued several air quality alerts covering the South Coast Air Basin, Coachella Valley and eastern Riverside County.
3. Sheikh Muhammad Ali Hammadi, a senior Hezbollah official, was fatally shot on Tuesday in a drive-by attack near his residence in Machghara, located in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley.
4. Kenya is on high alert after neighbouring Tanzania confirmed an outbreak of Marburg virus disease (MVD) in the northwestern Kagera region.
5. At least 76 people died, and 51 others were injured in a fire at a hotel at a ski resort in Kartalkaya, Bolu province, Türkiye. Authorities evacuated around 230 guests from the hotel.

7. A new wildfire that broke out north of Los Angeles on Wednesday rapidly spread to more than 8,000 acres (32 square km), fueled by strong winds and dry brush, forcing mandatory evacuation orders for more than 19,000 people.
