1. Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti 2025 will be celebrated on 23rd January 2025, marking the 128th birth anniversary of Netaji. This day is observed as Parakram Diwas to honor his bravery and contribution to India’s freedom struggle.

2. Total of 26 tableaux from various states, union territories, and Union Ministries are set to present the diversity of the country and cultural inclusiveness during the 76th Republic Day Parade. The tableaux are based on the theme of ‘Swarnim Bharat: Virasat Aur Vikas’.

3. The Uttar Pradesh government approved transformative projects to boost development in the state. The decision was taken at a special Cabinet meeting held at Triveni Sankul in the Arail area of Prayagraj, under the chairmanship of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

India’s non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity reached 217 gigawatt : India is making significant strides in solar and wind energy capacity with a commitment to achieving 500 gigawatts of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity by 2030. With the infrastructural push, the country’s non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity has reached 217 gigawatts by the 20th of this month.

6. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) added 14 lakh 63 thousand members during November last year. This represents an increase of 9.07 per cent in net members as compared to October 2024.

7. Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh inaugurated 24 projects and laid the foundation stone of 18 projects worth 349.51 crore rupees in Tamenglong district.

8. Punjab Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian has directed all the Chief Agriculture Officers (CAOs) of the State to furnish biweekly progress reports on Centrally and State-sponsored agricultural schemes for better results.

9. Telangana state secured a 10 thousand crore rupees investment deal in the digital sector. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy-led Telangana Rising delegation has entered into an agreement with CtrlS Datacenters Pvt ltd, a data center solutions provider for establishing an advanced AI Data Centre Cluster in the state.

10. Jammu and Kashmir, the Rajouri district administration has declared the Badhaal village as a containment zone and prohibited all gatherings in the area. The District Magistrate has imposed Section 163 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) sealing the homes of the affected families. The area is divided into three zones, with all public and private gatherings banned. All families identified as close contacts of affected individuals have been declared as containment zones.

11. Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has achieved a significant milestone in implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), with an 85% completion rate.

12. The Health Department has flagged 67 out of 190 villages in Panipat district for their skewed Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB), placing them in the red zone category. The district, which once led the state in SRB improvement under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) campaign, now ranks 17th with an SRB of 900 in 2024.

1. The CBI filed an appeal before the Calcutta High Court, seeking a death sentence for Sanjay Roy, who was sentenced to life imprisonment until death by a Sealdah court in the rape-cum-murder case of an on-duty doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

2. Chhattisgarh, six women Naxalites are part of 14 Naxalites killed in an encounter with security forces in Gariaband district. Inspector General of Police of Raipur Range Amresh Mishra said that the killed Naxalites include a member of the Central Committee of Maoists, its security team and members of the Odisha State Committee.

3. Former counsellor and AIMIM candidate from the Mustafabad Assembly constituency Tahir Hussain will remain in jail for now as the Supreme Court on Wednesday delivered a split verdict on his petition seeking interim bail to campaign during the ensuing Delhi Assembly elections.

The Joint Forum against National Register of Citizens (NRC), a common platform of civil society groups, socio-political organisations and individuals have filed a deposition with the Joint Committee of Parliament on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 on Monday. The forum criticised the proposals in the Bill for diminishing the powers of the Waqf Boards and giving “arbitrary powers” to District Collectors.

5. A sessions court on Monday (January 20, 2025) sentenced former IAS officer Pradeep Sharma to five years in jail and fined him ₹75,000 in a corruption case dating back to 2004 when he was the collector of Kutch district in Gujarat.

1. At least eleven passengers of the Pushpak Express were killed, while 14 others were injured after being hit by the Karnataka Express, which was passing through an adjacent track near Pachora station in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district. President Smt Droupadi Murmu and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have expressed condolences over the deaths of passengers in the railway track accident.

2. In Maharashtra, three people were killed and six injured in a car accident near Taklibhan in Srirampur taluka of Ahilyanagar district.

3. At least ten people were killed and 16 injured when the vehicle they were travelling in turned turtle near Arabail ghat in Yellapur taluk of Karnataka in Uttara Kannada district.

1. Kangana Ranaut’s ambitious film Emergency witnessed a dip in the box office collection on its first Tuesday (January 21). The movie, which opened in the theatres on January 17, minted Rs 1 crore on Day 5, as per Sacnilk.

With this, the total collection of Emergency stands at Rs 12.40 crore. The film had an occupancy rate of 0.79 percent in the Hindi market.

2. After the success of Kantara, Rishab Shetty revealed that the film’s prequel is in the works titled Kantara Chapter 1. While the first installment gained a lot of attraction for its overall plot and high-octane performances, fans are waiting for the second part desperately and the hype for the film is impeccable.

1. Preparation for the Republic Day parade is in full swing. Today, a full dress rehearsal will take place on Kartavya Path. The parade rehearsal will start at 10:30 AM from Vijay Chowk and will proceed to Red Fort.

2. The Indian Navy is all set to showcase its indomitable spirit on the Kartavya path this year during the Republic Day parade. According to the Indian Navy, 148 members marching contingent led by Lieutenant Commander Sahil Ahluwalia will take part in the Republic Day parade. Six women Agniveers would be part of the Indian Navy band taking part in the Republic Day parade.

3. A sector commander-level meeting between Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was held on Wednesday for the Malda -Chapainawabganj sector, focused on resolving key issues related to border security and cooperation.

4. The Indian Army has equipped its officers with around 30,000 “Sambhav” smartphones for secure communication, a report claims. These phones, which feature specialised apps for sharing sensitive information, were reportedly used during the last round of talks with China in October 2024.
