1. India is actively seeking to enhance its cooperation with Afghanistan, particularly focusing on development initiatives. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has expressed a commitment to engage with the “government of the people of Afghanistan” to address urgent developmental needs.

2. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar marked the opening of the new US Consulate in Bangalore: The United States officially inaugurated its consulate in Bangalore on January 17, 2025. This marks the fifth U.S. consulate in India, aimed at enhancing political and economic ties between the U.S. and Karnataka, particularly in the technology sector, often referred to as India’s Silicon Valley.

1. Israel’s cabinet approved the much-awaited Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal with Palestinian militants Hamas, hostage release set to begin Sunday.

2. Hindenburg Research, the US-based short-selling firm known for its allegations against the Adani Group, has announced its disbandment, marking the end of a significant chapter in corporate scrutiny that began in 2023. The firm gained notoriety after releasing a report that accused the Adani Group of extensive financial misconduct, including stock manipulation and accounting fraud, which led to a staggering loss of approximately $140 billion in market capitalization for the conglomerate.
