1. INDIA AND RUSSIA
Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit India on December 6 for the annual Summit in what would be his second trip abroad since the outbreak of the pandemic, reflecting the significance of the strategic partnership between the two nations.

2. Both India & Russia are expected to hold their first ever 2+2 Ministerial Level Dialogue later this month. According to sources, “The dates have not been set for the dialogue expected to take place in Moscow. It will take place ahead of the annual summit which is scheduled for early next month.”

3. Pakistan skipping NSA-level summit shows its attitude over Afghanistan issue: India
MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi took a dig at Pakistan for not attending the Delhi Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan and said that skipping such an important meeting shows its approach towards issues concerning Afghanistan. “Pakistan was invited to the meeting, but they did not attend the summit.

4. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday met a delegation of US Congress and exchanged views on the developments in Afghanistan as well as the situation in the Indo-Pacific.

5. The India-led International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) signed a memorandum of understanding at the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow on 12 Oct (Friday), agreeing to collaborate and support countries in the implementation of ambitious national climate action in line with global efforts.

The MoU, signed by ISA Director-General Dr Ajay Mathur and UNFCCC Deputy Executive Secretary Ovais Sarmad, involves the two institutions working to jointly organise a set of activities to facilitate the implementation of mitigation action in the energy sector.

1. Myanmar court on Friday sentenced the American journalist Danny Fenster to 11 years imprisonment on charges of incitement and violations of immigration and unlawful association laws.

2. French officials investigate alleged rape at presidential palace ::
An investigation has been opened into an alleged rape that occurred earlier this year in the French presidential palace. A female soldier guarding the palace was raped on July 1 by a colleague after a farewell party.

3. Blast at mosque kills 3, injures 15 in Afghanistan: There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

4. 135-year-old Johnson & Johnson to split into two public companies : Johnson & Johnson on Friday announced plans to split into two companies in the biggest shake-up in its 135-year history. The world’s largest health-products company said it will separate its consumer health business into a new publicly traded company. It will retain its pharmaceuticals and medical devices unit, which makes and sells prescription drugs, including its COVID-19 vaccine.

5. Japan’s government will add thousands of new hospital beds by November-end in an effort to combat a surge in COVID-19 cases. PM Fumio Kishida has also pledged booster shots for fully vaccinated adults from December. The government aims to secure 1.6 million doses of oral medicine to treat the virus and get approval for them by end of 2021.
