1. India and the European Union reiterated their commitment to the shared principles and values of democracy, freedom, rule of law and to the promotion and protection of all Human Rights during 11th India – European Union Human Rights Dialogue in New Delhi.

1. In the United State, 🇺🇸 Los Angeles has declared a state of emergency as three wildfires exploded from 10 acres to more than 2,900 acres within hours.
2. The Central Bank of Sri Lanka, has announced key priorities for the coming year for the crisis-stricken island’s economy. The Central Bank released the policy agenda for 2025 where it emphasised inflation stabilization at the 5% target under the Flexible Inflation Targeting (FIT) framework.
3. An 🇮🇹Italian journalist Cecilia Sala detained in Iran since 19 December has been freed and is heading back to Italy. Her detention took place just three days after Iranian businessman Mohammad Abedini was arrested at Milan’s Malpensa Airport on a US warrant. According to media reports, in recent years, Iran’s security forces have arrested dozens of foreigners and dual nationals, mostly on charges related to espionage and security.
4. 🇺🇦Ukrainian forces carried out a mass drone attack on Russia’s Saratov region, causing damage to an industrial enterprise.

In Pakistan, the critical trade route with China remained blocked for the fifth day yesterday as thousands of people continued their protests over prolonged power outages in the mountainous region of Pakistan-Occupied Gilgit-Baltistan. The organisers of the sit-in demonstration in Hunza city have vowed to continue protesting until their demands are met.
8. Damascus International Airport in Syria resumed international operations yesterday, with flight lights to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar. The first flight departed on Tuesday morning for Sharjah, UAE, while a separate aircraft arrived from Doha, the first civilian flight from Qatar in 13 years.
9. Indonesia, Mount Ibu, located in North Maluku province, erupted yesterday, prompting the Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation to issue a flight alert. The volcano, situated in the West Halmahera regency.
