1. India and Pakistan yesterday exchanged the lists of civilian prisoners and fishermen in each other’s custody through diplomatic channels. Under the provisions of the bilateral Agreement on Consular Access 2008, such lists are exchanged every year on 1st of January and on 1st of July.
2. India and Pakistan also exchanged the list of nuclear installations and facilities covered under the Agreement on the Prohibition of Attack against Nuclear Installations and Facilities between both countries.
3. Twenty fishermen arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy a year ago, were released yesterday. They returned from Colombo by aircraft and were received at the Chennai airport.

1. In Russia, a new tourist tax has come into effect across the country from 01 Jan, replacing the previous resort fee.
2. In Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, US-led airstrikes hit the military sites controlled by the Houthi group.
3. Russia launched an aerial attack on Ukraine yesterday, striking the capital and other regions with multiple missiles and drones. Ukraine said that it downed six of 21 missiles launched overnight and in the early morning by Russia.
4. In Germany, several people were injured, including two hospitalized, in a random knife attack in western Berlin on New Year’s Eve. The German police said the incident took place outside a supermarket.
5. The government of Trinidad and Tobago has declared a state of emergency due to increase in violence. The country has experienced a surge in murders, with December alone witnessing at least 67 fatalities.
6. Ten people were killed and 30 injured after a vehicle drove into a crowd in the southern US city of New Orleans on New Year’s Day. Police said the driver tried to hit “as many people” as possible and two police personnel were also shot and wounded.
