The Indian Meteorological Department has recently predicted heavy rainfall and snowfall in
certain areas of Himachal and Kashmir. Concerning the changing climate, it has also blocked
226 roads in Himachal.
As per IMD, heavy snowfall and rainfall will last from Friday to Sunday and it will be at its peak
on Saturday.
Affected Areas:
The areas that are affected by cold waves are diverse as many roads fall under this category
along with low-temperature places and even the plains. They are Kullu district, Lahaul, Kinnaur,
Spiti, Shimla, Hamirpur, etc.
Orange Warning Issued In:
The following are the places that are severely affected by the cold and IMD has issued orange
warnings for them: Bilaspur, Una, Hamirpur, and Manadi. The orange warning symbolizes that
heavy rain is expected to take place in the area and people should be prepared for and stay
indoors as much as possible.
Yellow Warning Issued In:
IMD has also marked down areas with the possibility of heavy rainfall and fog and issued yellow
warnings for them. The areas marked down under this category are: the Bhakra Dam reservoir
area and the Balh Valley in Mandi.
Locations Where Beautiful Snowfall Has Been Recorded Already:
Places like Valley of Flowers National Park, Nanda Devi National Park, Kedarnath Musk Deer
Sanctuary, and villages above Mana and Malaria in Niti Valley are already experiencing beautiful
snowfall. They are places of attraction for tourism.
Current Situation In Jammu And Kashmir.
People of Kashmir Valley are asked to be especially cautious as the Chillai-Kalan phase is
ongoing there. It implies the hardest and coldest times of the entire year and will continue for
another 40 days i.e. till January.
The Chillai-Kalan phase will be followed by Chillai-Khurd which will last for 20 days and further
followed by Chillai-Bachha which will last 10 days and mark the end of cold waves in Kashmir
Valley.
