1. The US House of Representatives has rejected President-elect Donald Trump’s new plan to fund federal operations and suspend the debt ceiling, just one day before a potential government shutdown.
2. Russia and Ukraine have both ruled out renewing a key gas transit deal for Europe. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Kyiv has refused to extend the five-year agreement to transport Russian gas across Ukraine beyond its expiry at the end of this month.
3. Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that he is ready to compromise over Ukraine in possible talks with US President-elect Donald Trump to end the war. Talking to media persons, President Putin stated he has no conditions for talks with Ukrainian authorities and is ready to negotiate with anyone, including President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
4. In Nigeria, at least 35 children have been killed in a stampede at a school Christmas fun-fair in the southwestern city of Ibadan. The stampede occurred when large crowds gathered for promised cash handouts and food. Around 5,000 children were at the venue.
5. Nepal is all set to attract tourists for the year-end and New Year celebrations. The 18th edition of the elephant festival is scheduled from December 26 to December 30 in Sauraha to attract tourists, both domestic and international. Elephant football, elephant polo, elephant fast walks, elephant beauty pageants, and picnics for elephants are a part of the festival.
