9. The 7th edition of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) will concurrently begin on 11th December, 2024 at 51 centres nationwide. Union Minister for Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, will virtually inaugurate the event. 1. India has recently achieved a significant milestone in foreign direct investment (FDI), surpassing the $1 trillion mark in cumulative inflows over the past 24 years. As of September 2024, total FDI inflows reached approximately $1,033.40 billion, according to data from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) .

2. The Central Government of India has recently approved a significant modernisation project for the Semiconductor Laboratory (SCL) located in Mohali, Punjab. This initiative is part of the broader Semicon India Program, which aims to enhance the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in the country.The government has sanctioned an investment of ₹10,000 crore.

Telangana’s economy continues to expand significantly, with its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) rising to Rs 15.02 lakh crore at current prices in 2023-24 from Rs 13.11 lakh crore in 2022-23, according to the latest data from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Despite the growth, the state slipped one spot to rank seventh among Indian states in terms of GSDP at current prices.

3. ISRO and the Indian Navy have successfully conducted “Well Deck” recovery trials for the Gaganyaan mission, marking a significant milestone in India’s human spaceflight program. These trials took place off the coast of Vishakhapatnam on 6 December 2024, and involved simulating the recovery of the Crew Module, which is crucial for safely bringing astronauts back to Earth after their mission.

4. India’s Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) chief, Lt. Gen. DS Rana, is set to visit Greece from December 10-11, 2024, to enhance defence cooperation between the two nations.

5. India’s Gaganyaan mission is making significant strides towards its ambitious goal of human space travel.
