Farmers have been marching from Shambhu District to the National Capital Delhi in demand of
making MSP a legal guarantee.
Authorities in response to farmers’ protest have imposed Section 163 of Bhartiya Nagrik
Suraksha Sanhita in Ambala District such that not more than five people can have a social
gathering.
Along with that, it has also been observed that Haryana Police Personnel have used tear gases
on farmers who tried to enter Haryana from Punjab to go to the Farmers Protest March in Delhi
NCR.
But farmers have also come prepared wearing gas masks to protect themselves from tear gases
and pepper gases.
Haryana Police are not allowing any farmer to cross the barricades without permission.
What are the demands of the Farmers?
They are demanding legal guarantees for MSP (Minimum Support Price), debt waiver, pensions
for farmers and farm laborers, justice for the Lakhimpur Kheri Violence, no increase in the
electricity tariff, compensation for farmers who died earlier during the protest, etc.
The list of them goes on and on.
Even though many of their demands may be outstretched, some are genuine and need urgent
attention from the Government. Farmers are our people, and they need the Government’s help.
Who Is Behind Organising These Protests?
Organisations like Samyukta Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have organized the
Farmers protests
Wayforward:
Government needs to address the crucial demands of Farmers in the short term and eventually
come up with structural reforms to address their needs which will lead to their welfare.
