G20 Leaders Agree To Step Up Afghan Humanitarian Efforts

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

1. The bilateral trade between India and China stands at USD 90.37 billion by the end of September 2021, an increase of 49.3 per cent year-on-year (YoY), according to the nine-month data released by the Chinese customs.

2. Breakthrough for Indian pharmaceutical industry in China as first anti-cancer drug from India enters Chinese markets : Agreements have been signed between local Chinese companies and India’s Dr. Reddy’s Lab on Monday for the sale of Abirateron, the first anti-cancer drug from India in China. India’s Ambassador Vikram Misri announced this in a tweet. There is a huge demand for cancer drugs in China as the mortality rate of cancer in China is high.

3. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that India is closely watching the three-step roadmap by Beijing to expedite the Bhutan-China boundary negotiations.

4. Air Canada is launching a new thrice-weekly, non-stop flight between Delhi and Montreal from October 31. The airline is also increasing its daily non-stop flights from Toronto to Delhi to 10 per week from October 15.

5. India will participate in the meeting being hosted by Russia involving the Taliban next week on 20 Oct.

6. India re-elected to UN Human Rights Council with overwhelming majority : The 76th UN General Assembly held elections on 14 Oct for 18 new members of the UN Human Rights Council who will serve for a period of three years, starting in January 2022.

1. G20 Leaders Agree To Step Up Afghan Humanitarian Effort : The European Union opened the talks by pledging one billion euros ($1.2-billion), including money for urgent humanitarian needs. International aid has been blocked to Afghanistan since the Taliban returned to power.

2. G20 leaders agreed Tuesday to work together to avoid a humanitarian disaster in Afghanistan, as the EU pledged a one-billion-euro aid package and host Italy stressed the need to maintain contacts with the Taliban. As the Islamist group held its first face-to-face talks with a US-EU delegation in Qatar, US President Joe Biden, Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan and India’s Narendra Modi joined a virtual summit on the looming economic and humanitarian crises sparked by the Taliban’s return to power.

3. U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman is on two-day visit to Pakistan.
