1. Air pollution: SC orders closure of classes 10, 12 in Delhi-NCR, schools to shift to online mode. The Court emphasised the need for all educational institutions to switch to online classes as a precautionary measure against hazardous air pollution levels. SC orders to set up teams to enforce GRAP 4 restrictions
The Supreme Court asked Delhi/NCR to immediately set up teams to enforce GRAP 4 restrictions which, it said, will remain in effect even if the AQI is below 450.
The district administrations of Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida) on Monday night ordered the suspension of physical classes till Class 12 in all schools and said studies will continue online due to poor air quality in the region.
2. India’s heavy communication satellite GSAT-20, weighing 4,700 kg, will be launched from Cape Canaveral, USA, by Elon Musk’s SpaceX on today (19 November 2024). The satellite, developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), will provide essential communication services, including internet connectivity to remote areas. This marks a significant milestone in India’s space endeavors, as the satellite is too heavy for India’s own launch vehicle, the LVM-3 “Bahubali.”

1. Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman hailed the State Bank of India for their unmatched growth story.
Speaking at the centenary celebrations of Mumbai Main Branch Building of SBI in Mumbai, the Finance Minister recounted that three Presidency Banks that were amalgamated together to make the Imperial Bank of India which at present has become the SBI had 250 branches in 1920s and the SBI has over 22 thousand 500 branches, 65 thousand ATMs, 85 thousand Banking Correspondents and over 50 crore customers. She also noted that the SBI is the only bank in India listed in the ‘Fortune 500’.
2. India has taken the lead in the G20 with an impressive 7 per cent GDP growth rate projected for 2024. MyGov said in a social media post that this achievement highlights India’s robust economy, showcasing its resilience and fast-paced growth amidst global challenges. Indonesia is in the second spot with 5 per cent and China is in the third position with a growth rate of 4.8 per cent.

1. The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Sunday rescued seven fishermen who were caught by a Pakistani ship near the India-Pakistan Maritime Boundary after a chase of over two hours, defence officials said. Officials claimed that despite efforts by the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) ship to retreat, the fishermen were successfully rescued and are all in stable medical condition.
2. The Indian Army is preparing to submit a proposal to the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) for the procurement of an additional 100 K-9 Vajra self-propelled howitzers. This move comes as part of the Army’s ongoing efforts to enhance its artillery capabilities, particularly in light of regional security challenges along the borders with China and Pakistan.
3. India is set to significantly increase its defence budget over the next decade, aiming to bolster its military readiness amid potential conflicts with regional adversaries, particularly China and Pakistan.
4. The tri-services exercise ‘Ex Poorvi Prahar’ has recently concluded in Arunachal Pradesh, aimed at enhancing the joint operational readiness of the Indian Armed Forces.
