Kartika Purnima is one of the most renowned Hindu festivals that is observed on the Purnima tithi (full moon day) in the month of Kartik as per the traditional Hindu calendar. Kartik Purnima is also celebrated as Dev Diwali. Jainism followers celebrate this day as the ‘Jain Festival of Light’. For followers of Sikhism, the day of Kartik Purnima marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev and is celebrated as Guru Nanak Jayanti or Gurpurab.

1. In Rajasthan, the police arrested an independent candidate Naresh Meena from Deoli-Uniara assembly seat bye-election in the case of assault on the subdivision officer during polling at Samrawata village.

2. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has attached the immovable property of a key terror accused linked with the Lashkar-e-Taiba offshoot, The Resistance Front. The action has been taken in a case relating to the brutal killing of two non-locals in Srinagar in February this year. The property in Zaldagar, Srinagar, was attached under Section 25 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The key terror accused is currently lodged in Central Jail Srinagar and is facing trials.

3. The Punjab Police announced on Thursday that they have dismantled two criminal groups, including a UK-based extortion ring, by arresting ten individuals.

1. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the government is investing in Digital Public Infrastructure to enable digital transactions. Speaking at a programme near Dharmasthala in Karnataka.

2. India’s export performance from April-October 2024 has shown strong growth, with an overall increase of 7.28%. The total export is 468.27 billion dollars which is more than a 7% increase from 436.48 billion dollars year-on-year.

3. India’s wholesale price index (WPI)-based inflation for October escalated to 2.36 per cent on an annual basis, showed the data released by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. In September, WPI inflation was at 1.84 per cent and in August inflation was at 1.25 per cent.

4. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has identified State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank, and ICICI Bank as the country’s most systemically important financial institutions, designating them as Domestic Systemically Important Banks (D-SIBs).

1. Telangana government has served a notice on Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh asking him not to sing any songs promoting alcohol, drugs and violence during his much anticipated Dil-Luminati concert slated to be held in Hyderabad on Friday.

2. The Madras High Court on Thursday (November 14) denied anticipatory bail to South Indian actress Kasthuri for her alleged comments against the Telugu community in Tamil Nadu.

Speaking at a Brahmin meet in Chennai on November 3rd, the South Indian actress had purportedly made comments against the Telugu community suggesting that the Telugu people, who had come to serve the courtesans of the Tamil Kings were now claiming to be of Tamil race. After widespread backlash, Kasthuri issued an apology stating that her comments were specific to some individuals and not against the Telugu community.

1. Centre on Thursday reimposed the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in Manipur’s six police station areas, including the violence-hit Jiribam, with the Union home ministry asserting that the decision was taken given the ‘continuous volatile situation’ there due to the ongoing ethnic violence.

2. Defence Research and Development Organisation, DRDO has completed the Flight Tests of Guided Pinaka Weapon System as part of Provisional Staff Qualitative Requirements (PSQR) Validation Trials.

3. The Indian Navy’s INS Dega has successfully installed a new airport surveillance radar at Visakhapatnam Airport, significantly enhancing air traffic management capabilities.This state-of-the-art radar, developed indigenously by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), is located on Dolphin Hill and is designed to provide uninterrupted surveillance.

4. India is participating in the Bahrain International Air Show 2024, which commenced on November 14 and will run until November 15. The Indian Air Force (IAF) is showcasing its Sarang Helicopter Display Team at the event, performing thrilling aerial displays at the Sakhir Air Base in Bahrain.

5. Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully completed the Flight Tests of Guided Pinaka Weapon System as part of Provisional Staff Qualitative Requirements (PSQR) Validation Trials. The flight tests have been conducted in three phases at different field firing ranges.
