Delhi:;Even though the air quality remains a significant health concern in the city of Delhi-NCR, the severe levels of pollution persist as has been the case in places like Anand Vihar. However, at many locations in the region, AQI readings have crossed the threshold of over 400 with hazardous air having serious health implications for an exposed population, especially vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those suffering from respiratory diseases.
Present AQI Status and Affected Areas
The Anand Vihar AQI level has registered one of the highest records recently, indicating extreme poor quality of air. Other areas of Delhi, including ITO, Jahangirpuri, and Vivek Vihar, are experiencing hazardous conditions. The prime culprits behind these seriously degenerative pollutants are PM2.5 and PM10, tiny particulate matter, capable of percolating into the deep lungs, but not even limited to getting into the bloodstream.
Impact on Health and Government’s Response
Health experts have asked residents to minimize their outdoor activities, wear N95 masks whenever they need to go outside, and install air purifiers indoors as much as possible. The government has sent more monitoring and enforcement teams to regulate the sources of pollution like unauthorized construction activities, open waste burning, and dust emissions. Firecrackers are also banned temporarily in this season as these pollutants increase during festival seasons.
Causes Responsible for Increasing Pollution
Vehicular emissions, industrial activities, and seasonal changes are mixed together and accountable for the present pollution levels. Winter becomes a peak time due to cooler temperatures and slow winds that trap pollutants closer to the ground, thereby forming a thick smog layer over the entire city. Crop stubble burning in adjoining states is also one of the causes that significantly add to Delhi’s problems during this period of the year.
Long-term Solutions at Center
Whereas temporary curbs are now going some way to providing relief, experts insist sustainable solutions to this crisis are the key for Delhi to eventually overcome this air quality crisis in the long term. The solutions might include strict emission standards for industries, expansion of the green cover, and improved and sound waste management practices to curb air pollution from its very source.
They should be updated with the daily AQI, take precautionary measures about health matters, and they have to support activities that would reduce pollution in the general area. Public cooperation will also be necessary as well in making air quality more livable as the government and the local agencies work further on combaing the crisis.
