1. The government has initiated an inquiry into the deaths of elephants in the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve of Madhya Pradesh. The Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has constituted a team to investigate the deaths of pten elephants in the reserve.
2. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directed officials on Saturday to immediately retract all notices sent to farmers regarding Waqf land. A statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said, “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has strictly instructed officials to withdraw all notices concerning Waqf land, ensuring farmers face no disturbance.”

The Enforcement Directorate, Chennai, on Friday said it has slapped a penalty of Rs 566.5 crore and ordered the confiscation of properties worth Rs 195 crore of Chennai-based GI Retail Private Ltd for violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) in a case pertaining to transfer of shares of a company owned by it to German firm Wirecard through a Mauritius-based entity.

In Odisha, at least five persons were killed and seven others critically injured when the van in which they were traveling rammed into a trailer truck on the MCL-Taporia Road near Gaikanapalli village in Sundergarh district in the wee hours yesterday. 12 people from Kandagoda and Samarpinda villages were returning home in the van after attending a cultural ceremony when the accident occurred.
