Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently inaugurated the first aircraft manufacturing facility of the C-295 in Vadodara, Gujarat. It will be a historic project helping India achieve self-reliance in its defense sector. The C-295 aircraft facility, which was developed in cooperation with Tata and Airbus, marked the first of its kind in India for military transport aircraft, making it significantly stronger in terms of both aerospace and defense capabilities. PM Modi stressed that with this milestone, India will become a global player in defense production.
A Special Tribute to Ratan Tata
At the inaugural event, PM Modi made time to appreciate how Chairperson Emeritus Tata Sons, Ratan Tata, played his role in making this project a reality. With the vision of Tata and the leadership he provided, he brought the manufacture of the C-295 under the Tata-Airbus deal to India. By stating his name, PM Modi stated that Indian industry leaders play a vital role in the execution of the country’s ambitious idea of self-reliance. According to him, Tata’s contributions have helped advance India’s aerospace sector besides setting a precedent for future defense industry collaborations.
Enhancing Indian Defense and Employment
This C-295 project will give rise to thousands of jobs, both direct and indirect, at the facility itself, thus having a tremendous impact on employment in the region. The facility also forms part of the “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” programs to decrease the import dependence of India on foreign defense equipment. The facility will manufacture transport aircraft C-295 for the Indian Air Force, with the first “Made in India” C-295 due to be delivered by 2026.
Strengthening India’s Aerospace Independence
The C-295 facility marks one more of India’s increased strength in the aerospace field: manufacture, assembly, and test within the country will all occur there. Domestic manufacture of the C-295 is part of a long way that cuts the country’s imports in terms of military aircraft, thus helping to further increase its technological capabilities while continuing its economic growth.
He makes the point that facilities such as the C-295 are not just about the manufacturing of defense equipment but will become a manufacturing hub for the rest of the world for defense and aerospace.
