1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi to embark on two-day visit to Russia today to attend BRICS Summit in Kazan.
BRICS is an acronym which stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. It has expanded to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates as well.
2. India and China reach agreement on patrolling arrangements along Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh.

1. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was hospitalized in Brasilia after sustaining a bruise to the head in an accident at home. As a result, he cancelled his planned trip to Russia for the upcoming BRICS Summit.
2. The 14th biennial lake conference took place in Moodbidri from October 17 to 20, 2024. It focused on the theme ‘Lake 2024 – wetlands for human wellbeing’. Organized by the Wetlands Research Group at the Indian Institute of Science and Alva’s Education Foundation.
