Delhi: In a shocking incident at a Ramleela performance in Delhi on Dussehra, a performer died after getting a heart attack on stage. This incident happened during the famous scene “Ravan Vadh”. This scene left all the audience in shock and disbelief.
The Incident
The one who played Ravan in the Ramleela was 45 years old and was identified as Rajesh Kumar. He was playing in a local park. He collapsed on stage while midway through an intense climax scene. The audience initially thought that it was part of the act, but when Kumar did not rise up, it became obvious that something was very wrong.
Attempt to Revive Him
Soon, fellow actors and crew members rushed to his side and called for the medical staff. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead due to cardiac arrest. Eyewitnesses claim that Kumar was perfectly alright before the performance and did not have any known major health issues.
Tributes are pouring in.
Everybody is shocked at the death news of Kumar and has deepened their sorrow in the local community and theater circles. Ramleela is a traditional play that narrates the life of Lord Rama. It is enacted everywhere across the country, especially during the festival of Dussehra. Kumar was active in these performances for more than two decades.
The Ramleela committee reported its tributes by stating, “He was not only a god-gifted artist but also a favorite family member of our society. His contribution in preserving our cultural heritage will always be remembered.”
Public Reaction
This sad event fueled discussions on the need for mandatory health checks, especially among the artists in current physically demanding performances. Several individuals on social media sites created condolences and also remembered the often dearly departed actor.
One of his co-actors stated: “Rajesh always brought tremendous vigor to his act. He is heartbreaking for leaving while doing just what he loved most.”
