On The Occasion Of World Heart Day Hospital Conducts A CPR Training Session At Kharghar And Panvel Railway Stations

Navi Mumbai:* Cardiac emergencies, including heart attacks, sudden cardiac arrest, and heart failure, can occur at any time and anywhere causing untimely deaths in the country. To mark World Heart Day, Medicover Hospitals, Navi Mumbai conducted a hands-on one-hour training session on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). It is an emergency procedure performed when one’s breathing or heartbeat stops due to any cardiac issue. The training session led by Dr Abhijit Sawant, Consultant and Head Accident and Emergency department and team utilized mannequin dolls at various stations like Kharghar, Panvel, where hundreds of commuters gained valuable skills and knowledge. The participants committed themselves to acting as good Samaritans, embracing the responsibility of potentially saving lives in emergencies.

The incidence of cardiovascular disease is increasing in India, affecting not just the elderly but also youngsters. Factors such as a lack of physical activity, hereditary predispositions, smoking habits, unhealthy diets, and high-stress levels, strenuous exercise, comorbidities such as obesity, hypertension and high cholesterol, alcohol, substance abuse are endangering the heart health of many Indians. The alarming rise in incidents like heart attacks, sudden cardiac arrests, and heart failures among the youth demands immediate action. Recognizing that many individuals rely on local trains which are considered as ‘Life Line’, Medicover Hospitals in Navi Mumbai has initiated a novel idea of conducting a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training session at key railway stations such as Kharghar, Panvel and imparting knowledge regarding this critical skill.

“CPR performed during a heart attack enhances the likelihood of survival. It’s important to recognize that the first hour following a cardiac emergency, often referred to as the golden hour, is crucial. By providing CPR training to commuters, we can improve outcomes in cardiac emergencies. This training will cover essential techniques such as chest compressions, and rescue breaths. An informative session on how to act during an emergency was conducted by the experts to further highlight the importance of CPR. Even an informative session regarding the symptoms, treatment, and prevention of heart problems was held after the training session,” said Dr. Tamiruddin Danwade, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist
