1. *The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast very heavy rainfall* over Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha and Telangana during next 2 to 3 days. The IMD has issued orange alert in seven districts of Kerala, indicating isolated very heavy rainfall. (Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod) .

2. Cyclone Asna, formed over the coast of Kutch in Gujarat earlier during the day, has moved into the Arabian sea towards Oman without leaving any major impact on the region.

3. Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar highlights significant role of women in the making of ‘Viksit Bharat’. He was addressing an interactive session on “Role of Women in Viksit Bharat” at Bharati College, University of Delhi.

4. *PM Modi on Friday tendered an apology to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the people of Maharashtra for the collapse of the 35-foot statue of the Maratha warrior on August 26,* eight months after it was inaugurated, in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra.

5. PM Modi lays foundation stone of Vadhvan Port in Palghar district of Maharashtra to provide direct connectivity to international shipping routes. It is the India’s largest deep-water Port.

6. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has granted a one-month extension to Access Providers to comply with its Direction regarding the whitelisting of URLs, OTT and Android Application Packages- APKs links. Ministry of Communications in a statement said that the revised Direction mandates that all Access Providers ensure that traffic containing URLs, APKs and OTT links, which are not whitelisted, is not permitted with effect from 1st of October this year.

7. The Assam Assembly on Friday (30 August) abolished a British-era rule that enabled Muslim members to take a two-hour break to offer namaz on Fridays. The Assembly secretariat said the Speaker, “in view of the secular nature of the Constitution”, proposed that the House must be run on Fridays like any other day without adjournment.

8. The Prime Minister Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 218 fishery projects worth around 1,560 crore rupees, aimed at bolstering the sector’s infrastructure and productivity across the nation.

9. The Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena distributed appointment letters to 628 candidates selected by the Union Public Service Commission and Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board in New Delhi. The candidates, including 27 doctors were conferred with appointment letters from different departments.

10. Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday directed officials to develop new policies aimed at attracting tourists, with a special focus on health, eco, and temple tourism, proposing a new zoo, a nature cure park and a health city.

11. Telangana Devadula Irrigation Project to Begin by March 2026. Irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that Devadula lift irrigation project, once completed, will be able to provide irrigation for 300 days a year and will be particularly beneficial for the former undivided Warangal district.

12. The youth wing of Madhya Pradesh unit of Congress in Bhopal on Friday staged demonstration in protest against price rise of essential commodities, growing unemployment problem and nursing college scam in the state.

13. Former Jharkhand chief minister Champai Soren joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday, two days after he resigned from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha citing dissatisfaction with the party’s current style of functioning and facing ‘bitter humiliation’. He became the 12th Chief Minister of Jharkhand on February 2, shortly after his predecessor, Hemant Soren, resigned just before being arrested by the ED in a money laundering case.

14. The ruling BJP has decided to field Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini from Ladwa in Kurukshstra district, considered to be a ‘safe seat’, in the upcoming October 1 Assembly election.

15. *Manipur CM Biren Singh on Friday explained the complex situation in the conflict-torn northeastern state and the reason why PM Modi has not yet paid a visit to the region.* He said that the PM didn’t come here himself but he sent the Home Minister (Amit Shah) and has addressed the issue publicly on three occasions. August 10, August 15 and July 23 respectively.

1. The Pune Police have registered a case on the charges of forgery and criminal conspiracy against IPS officer Bhagyashree Navtake who had headed the investigation into an alleged ₹1,200 crore scam pertaining to Bhaichand Hirachand Raisoni Credit Society.

2. *The Joint Committee of Parliament has sought suggestions on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill* , which aims to centralise the registration of Waqf properties. Led by BJP’s Jagdambika Pal, the committee has called for input from the general public, NGOs, and experts within 15 days.

3. The Indian Medical Association recently announced the cancellation of former RG Kar Medical College principal Dr Sandip Ghosh’s membership. He was the vice principal of IMA Calcutta branch. The decision was unanimously taken by the disciplinary committee.

4. The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notice to Patanjali Ayurveda and Baba Ramdev on a plea alleging that its herbal tooth powder, Divya Dant Manjan, contains non-vegetarian ingredient and has been misbranded as vegetarian.

5. The Enforcement Directorate has attached immovable properties of over 401 acres worth ₹834 crore belonging to Emaar India Ltd and MGF Developments Ltd. The probe follows a CBI FIR implicating former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda and others in a case of alleged money laundering linked to land acquisition in Gurugram.

6. The Supreme Court on Friday announced it will hear on Monday an interim plea from the Punjab government seeking the urgent release of over ₹1,000 crore from the Centre, alleging dues related to the Rural Development Fund.

1. The Finance Ministry has said that there are no restrictions for persons of the Queer community to open a joint bank account and to nominate a person in a queer relationship as a nominee.

2. *Country’s core sector output records 6.1 percent growth in July :* the combined Index of Eight Core Sector Industries measures the output of key sectors, including cement, coal, crude oil, electricity, fertilizers, natural gas, refinery products, and steel, which together have a 40 percent weight in the Index of Industrial Production.

3. State-owned hydropower company SJVN on Thursday was granted ‘Navratna’ status by the government. With the grant of ‘Navratna’ status, the company should benefit in enhancing the market credibility and in undertaking larger-size PPP projects. SJVN is a CPSE with an annual turnover of Rs. 2833 crores and net profit of Rs 908 crores for FY 2023-24.

4. Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlights India’s fintech prowess at at the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2024 at Mumbai in Maharashtra; Asserts, Fintech sector played a significant role in democratizing financial services. The Prime Minister also visited the GFF exhibition showcasing the latest innovations of the fintech landscape.

5. LIC has handed over a ₹3,662.17 crore dividend to the Indian government, following a final dividend approval of ₹6 per share for 2023-24. This, combined with an earlier interim dividend of ₹2,441.45 crore, brings the total payout for the fiscal year to ₹6,103.62 crore.

1. A rape case has been registered against prominent Malayalam actor and ruling CPI(M) MLA M Mukesh following a female actor’s allegation that he sexually assaulted her years ago. An FIR under IPC 376 (rape) was registered against the actor at Maradu police station in Kochi city.

2. *Malayali actor Vishak Nair gets death threat* : Malayalam actor Vishak Nair who was last seen in Manju Warrier’s film ‘Footage’ is all set to star in Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’. However, the actor has now revealed that he has received death threats from a section of people who ‘wrongly’ believe he will play Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in the movie. The actor took to his Instagram handle and clarified that he will be playing Sanjay Gandhi and not Jarnail Singh in the movie.

1. *The Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General M V Suchindra Kumar visited the troops along the Line of Control (LoC)* and hinterland in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri sector on Thursday and asked them to maintain comprehensive operational readiness.

2. *The first Joint Commanders’ Conference (JCC) is set to take place at the Headquarters Central Command, Lucknow from 04-05 September 2024*. Themed ‘Sashakt aur Surakshit Bharat: Transforming the Armed Forces’, the conference will be attended by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, and will serve as the pivotal platform for undertaking internal ‘process reforms’ within the armed forces.

Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan will inaugurate the convocation on September 04, which brings together the apex level hierarchy from the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces.

3. *INDIAN NAVAL SHIP TABAR CONDUCTS MARITIME PARTNERSHIP EXERCISE WITH SPANISH NAVY SHIP ATALAYA* : Indian Navy’s frontline frigate, INS Tabar had arrived on a two day visit at Malaga, Spain on 25 Aug and post departure on 27 Aug conducted Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) with Spanish Navy Ship Atalaya in the Mediterranean Sea. India and Spain have been engaging in multiple fields towards enhancing the existing bilateral relations, including maritime domain.

4. *The Indian Army launched the first phase of Project NAMAN,* which is designed to provide dedicated support and services to Defence pensioners, veterans, and their families. Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, and the President of the Army Wives Welfare Association, Mrs. Sunita Dwivedi, were present at the launching event.

(a) The Project will entail establishing facilitation and grievance redressal centres for veterans and the kin of personnel who have lost their lives.

(b) ‘NAMAN’ will house a Common Service Centre which will facilitate the veterans and their relatives. The project offers a range of services, including: Banking solutions, E-governance services, Entrepreneurial opportunities, and Pension services.

(c) It will offer all government-to-customer services and also facilitate the updating of pensioners’ accounts on the SPARSH portal of veterans, next of kin and dependents.

(d) In the first phase of Project NAMAN, 14 Common Services Centres have been established at key locations across India, including New Delhi, Jalandhar, Leh, Dehradun, Lucknow, Jodhpur, Bengdubi, Gorakhpur, Jhansi, Secunderabad, Saugor, Guntur, Ahmedabad, and Bangalore. The project is set to expand significantly and aims to establish approximately 200 centres nationwide over the next 2 to 3 years.

(e) The Directorate of Indian Army Veterans (Adjutant General Branch) of the Indian Army signed an MoU with HDFC Bank Limited and CSE e-Governance India Limited for Project ‘NAMAN’- an ode to the veterans.
