1. Heavy rains continue to lash several parts of Gujarat for the third consecutive day, severely affecting normal life. In Bihar, several villages in Bhagalpur, Katihar, Khamaria, Patna, and Munger districts are affected by flooding due to the rising water levels in various rivers.

2. Nomination for the first phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir ended yesterday. 24 seats in six districts will go to polls on 18 September. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is 30 August.

3. In the Rajya Sabha by-polls, nine members from BJP, two from NDA allies and one from Congress have been elected unopposed.

4. BJP released the third list of its 29 candidates for the ensuing Assembly Elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Congress has released a list of nine candidates list.

5. Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) (ASP) have formed an alliance for the upcoming Haryana Assembly Elections. JJP leader Dushyant Singh Chautala and ASP President Chandra Shekhar Aazad made the announcement at a joint press conference in New Delhi. Haryana will go to polls the 1st of October in a single-phase. The counting of votes will take place on the 4th of October along with Jammu and Kashmir.

6. The Railway Board has given its approval for operating a bi-weekly train for Goa and Maharashtra’s Konkan region from Bandra Terminus station on the Western Railway, The train’s inaugural run will take place on 29 August from Borivali, a major station on WR, instead of Bandra Terminus.

7. Under attack over the collapse of a Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue nearly nine months after it was unveiled, the Mahayuti government in Maharashtra on Tuesday said the structure was built by the Navy, while the Opposition targeted the ruling alliance and sought Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s resignation.

The 35-foot statue of the 17th century Maratha empire founder, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Rajkot Fort on December 4 last year, collapsed on Monday afternoon.

8. South India’s First ever Azaan competition is set to be held at the Masjid Hasan in Balanagar, Bangalore Highway, Hyderabad on Friday, September 13. The competition is being organised by MN Research and Educational Foundation.

The Azaan competition is set to be a 9 am – 9 pm event, where muezzins skilled in Tajweed, from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala can participate. The competition will be conducted as two sets, a junior set, for the contestants of the age group of 5-15, and a senior set for the age group 16-35.

9. The Prohibition of Child Marriage (Himachal Pradesh Amendment) Bill, 2024, was passed by the Vidhan Sabha to enhance the marriageable age of girls from 18 to 21 years. The Bill for making amendments to the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, was passed by the Assembly.

10. Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand Champai Soren confirmed that he will join the BJP.

1. In Kolkata, reports of clashes between police and protesters were received from Howrah Bridge, Foreshore Road, and Santragachi in Howrah as student groups held the ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ rally. Protesters are demanding the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital incident.

2. Kerala government has formed a seven-member Special Investigation Team, SIT to probe the crimes against women in the Malayalam film industry. The move came following Justice K. Hema Committee report, which detailed rampant harassment and abuse faced by women professionals in the industry.

3. The Supreme Court granted bail to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K. Kavitha in corruption and money laundering cases related to the alleged Delhi liquor policy case.

The apex court set aside a July 1 Delhi High Court order denying her bail. The ED arrested Kavitha from her residence in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, on March 15, and she has been lodged at Tihar Jail since then. She was later arrested by the CBI on 11 April at the jail.

4. The first meeting of the National Task Force, NTF, formed by the Supreme Court to make recommendations for safety, security and working conditions of medical professionals was held yesterday. The meeting was chaired by Cabinet Secretary in which all members including Home Secretary and Health Secretary were present.

5. The Indian government has launched a comprehensive investigation into Telegram, the widely-used encrypted messaging platform.

This probe comes in the wake of allegations that the app is being misused for various criminal activities, most notably extortion and gambling. The investigation has gained additional significance following the recent arrest of Telegram’s founder, Pavel Durov, in Paris.

6. Port and dock workers’ unions of major ports have deferred their indefinite strike proposed from Wednesday. Strike is for immediate wage revision and other benefits, pending for nearly 32 months.

1. India Registers 7.12% Growth in Production : The Ministry of Coal in a statement said that the cumulative coal production for this financial year as of 25th August has increased to 370.67 million tonnes, compared to 346.02 million tonnes during the same period last year.

2. The Unified Lending Interface (ULI) is a new technology platform that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) plans to introduce across the country. Its main purpose is to make it easier and faster for people, especially those in rural areas, to get loans. ULI is designed to improve the lending process by lowering costs and speeding up how quickly loans are given out.

3. The Union Cabinet, headed by PM Modi, has approved the continuation of three major schemes, combining them into a new central sector scheme called ‘Vigyan Dhara.’ This scheme will have a proposed budget of Rs 10,579.84 crore for the period from 2021-22 to 2025-26, according to the 15th Finance Commission.

4. The Ministry of Textiles has approved four start-ups with a grant of approximately fifty lakh rupees each at the eighth Empowered Programme Committee meeting chaired under the National Technical Textiles Mission in New Delhi.

5. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated Udaipur’s new GST Bhawan, which will serve 13 districts are n Rajasthan. The facility includes essential amenities and aims to streamline GST-related processes.

1. Actor Mohanlal resigned as the President of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists or (AMMA). In the wake of the Justice Hema Committee report, Mohanlal and the entire 16-member executive committee of AMMA collectively stepped down.

2. Noted Malayalam film director M Mohan passed away at a private hospital in Kochi. He was 76.

3. The highly anticipated film Devara, starring the global star Jr NTR, has made history even before its official release.
The Film is directed by Koratala Siva and also featuring Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan in pivotal roles.

In a stunning turn of events, advance bookings for the film’s premiere screenings at the Piccadilly Cine Multiplex in the UK were sold out in a mere five minutes. The film will release on 27 September 2024.

4. Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, who is currently in judicial custody at Parappana Agrahara Central jail in Bengaluru in the Renukaswamy murder case, is likely to be shifted to another prison in the state.

1. The Centre on Tuesday appointed 1992 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer B Srinivasan as the new director general of National Security Guard (NSG).

2. Indian Navy’s frontline stealth frigate, INS Tabar commanded by Captain MR Harish arrived at Malaga, Spain on 25 Aug 24 for a two day visit to enhance the existing bilateral relations between India and Spain.

3. The Indian Navy has recovered the wreckage of the Cessna 152 trainer aircraft from Chandil reservoir in Jharkhand’s Seraikela Kharsawan district. The wreckage of the training aircraft that went missing on August 20 was recovered on Monday.

4. The Indian Navy is likely to commission its second nuclear submarine INS Arighat on Thursday . The submarine INS Arighat is the second boat of the Arihant class indigenous nuclear submarines and will be supporting the existing INS Arihant which was inducted in 2009.

5. Headquarters Eastern Command played host to the legendary footballer Sunil Chhetri on 25th August 2024 at Fort William. To reminisce, Sunil, who’s the evergreen face of Indian Football, is an Army kid and started his football career through the Durand Cup. He fondly recalled his days in Fort William as a kid and thanked the Indian Army for having the basics in him which helped him grow in the field of his choosing.

6. The Indian Army aims to develop anti-drone capabilities with the help of High-Power Microwave systems. The HPM are designed to counter small drones. The HPM systems have the precision range of nearly 5 kilometres.

Pakistan’s Nishan-E-Imtiaz (Military) Awarded To Top Chinese General : Commander of the Ground Forces of the People’s Liberation Army of China General Li Qiaoming was on Tuesday conferred the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, one of the top honours in Pakistan, for his “unwavering commitment” in promoting close cooperation between the militaries of the two all-weather friends.
