1. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been interrogating the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh in Kolkata. The agency is also interrogating the present Medical Superintendent and Vice-Principal of the hospital Bulbul Mukhopadhyay.

2. The Resident doctors’ from Lady Hardinge Medical College, Maulana Azad Medical College, Vardhman Mahavir and Safdarjung Hospital, yesterday held a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, demanding justice for the alleged rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College.

3. The Bharat Bandh called by Reservation Bachao Sangharsh Samiti to protest the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe reservations has got a mixed response. In Bihar, clashes were witnessed at various places between protesters and police personnel. Leaders of Left Parties and other organizations supported the Bandh.

4. In Maharashtra, the accused in the Badlapur sexual abuse case Akshay Shinde was produced before a local court in Thane yesterday and has been sent to police custody until 26th August. He is accused of abusing two girls studying in a school in Badlapur. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government has constituted a Special Investigation Team to investigate the matter.

Chiranjeevi was born as Konidela Sivasankara Varaprasad Rao on 22 August 1955 in a Telugu family to Konidela Venkata Rao and Anjana Devi in Mogalthur, West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. Chiranjeevi made his acting debut in 1978.

1. Defence minister Rajnath Singh will be visiting the United States from August 23 to 27. His visit will help cement India-US defence relations further.

2. The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Wednesday said one of its fighter aircraft inadvertently released an “air store” near the Pokhran firing range due to a technical malfunction. The IAF confirmed the incident in a social media post on X, assuring the public that no damage to life or property has been reported. An enquiry by the IAF has been ordered to investigate into the incident. No damage to life or property has been reported.

3. The Indian Army has issued a tender for next-generation artillery guns, seeking 400 systems initially, with demand expected to rise. Private manufacturers like Larsen & Toubro, Bharat Forge, and TATA Advanced Systems are key contenders, aiming to supply domestically designed, high-automation 155mm/52 calibre guns.

4. INDIA’S NEXT-GEN VIRUPAKSHA AESA BEAM & RADAR STEERING RADAR TO REVOLUTIONISE SU-30MKI JETS : Virupaksha radar will be a steering AESA Radar which will incorporate both beam and radar steering thus providing a larger side on coverage.

Virupaksha is an upscaled version of the LRDE’s Uttam Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar that has already been installed on the TEJAS and hence, it is expected to track, detect, and monitor targets at a much longer range with far better accuracy.

5. India to Upgrade MiG-29 Fighter Jets With Israeli Rampage Missiles; To Carry Out Long-Range, High-Speed Ground Attack Missions. India is actively modernizing its fleet of MiG-29 fighter jets to enhance their combat capabilities, particularly in response to regional security challenges posed by the Chinese military.

6. BEML Ltd., which is into defence and heavy engineering manufacturing, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Directorate of Marine Engineering, Indian Navy, for indigenous design, development, manufacture, testing, and product support of critical marine equipment and systems.
